Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Career in HR (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the website careerinhr.com and offers career guides, digital workbooks, resume resources, and one-to-one coaching for people entering the Human Resources profession.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you visit our website or purchase our products. By using careerinhr.com, you agree to the practices described here.

For questions about this policy, contact us at hello@careerinhr.com.

2. Data We Collect

We collect information in two ways — information you give us directly, and information collected automatically when you use our site.

Information you provide directly

  • Name and email address — when you purchase a product, submit an intake or contact form, or email us
  • Payment information — collected and processed by our payment processor (we do not store card details on our servers)
  • Messages and enquiries — when you email us or submit a contact form
  • Coaching session information — details you share during booking or in sessions, kept confidential

Information collected automatically

  • IP address and approximate location (country/region level)
  • Browser type, device type, and operating system
  • Pages visited, time spent on pages, and referring URLs
  • Cookie identifiers (see Section 4)

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To process and fulfil your orders and deliver digital products
  • To send transactional emails (order confirmations, download links)
  • To send order confirmations, session details, and replies to your messages
  • To respond to your enquiries or coaching booking requests
  • To improve the website — understanding which content is most useful
  • To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling.

4. Cookies & Tracking

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We use cookies to make our site function correctly and to understand how it is used.

Types of cookies we use

  • Essential cookies — required for the site to function (e.g. maintaining your session during checkout). These cannot be disabled.
  • Payment security cookies — set by Stripe at checkout to prevent fraud and process your payment securely.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may affect site functionality. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. If that changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first.

5. Third-Party Services

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate our business. Each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles your data.

Payment processing — Stripe

Payments are processed by Stripe through our WooCommerce checkout. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on our servers. Stripe handles your payment data under its own privacy policy and PCI-DSS security standards.

Online store & hosting — WooCommerce and Hostinger

Our website runs on WordPress with WooCommerce, hosted by Hostinger. Your order details (name, email, purchase history) are stored in our store so we can deliver your digital products and provide download access.

Forms — Fluent Forms

Intake and contact forms use Fluent Forms, a WordPress plugin. Your submissions (such as your current resume, target role, and availability) are stored on our own website and used only to deliver the service you purchased.

Scheduling, live sessions & file storage — Microsoft 365

Sessions are booked through Microsoft Bookings and held on Microsoft Teams. Client files (your intake answers, resume drafts, and scorecards) are stored securely in Microsoft 365 (OneDrive/SharePoint). Your name, email, and booking details are processed by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Sessions are not recorded unless you ask us to and we both agree.

Email

We send order confirmations and service emails from our own website and email account. We do not currently run a marketing email list. If we start one, joining will be optional and every email will include an unsubscribe link.

We do not share your personal data with any third party for their own marketing purposes.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on servers located in the United States and/or the European Union, depending on the service provider. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.

We retain your data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Intake forms and resume files are deleted 12 months after your service is complete, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. Order records are retained for a minimum of seven years for accounting and legal compliance purposes.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we work to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion — request that we delete your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements
  • Objection — object to us processing your data for marketing purposes
  • Portability — request your data in a commonly used, machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent — withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent (e.g. unsubscribe from marketing emails)

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@careerinhr.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to request deletion. We do not sell personal information. To submit a CCPA request, email hello@careerinhr.com.

8. Children’s Privacy

Career in HR is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@careerinhr.com and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Where changes are significant, we will note them clearly on this page.

Continued use of careerinhr.com after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
